Material district 2025

In March, we will be heading to Material District to talk about something that’s at the core of OFFSITE: how we work with waste. It’s one thing to say that we design with reclaimed materials, but there’s a whole philosophy behind it. We like to share that.
One of the thing we will be talking about is how material sourcing can be unpredictable. Many companies are reducing their waste output, which is great for sustainability but makes it harder to find materials. And once we do, they often require extensive processing. Cleaning, cutting, and adapting materials to fit our designs takes time, adding extra layers to production. Yet, these very challenges push us to develop new methods, rethink standard design principles, and embrace imperfections as part of the aesthetic.
The other thing we’ll be discussing at Material District is the importance of transparency. We don’t just want to make furniture; we want to show exactly what it’s made of. That’s why we calculate and share the percentage of reclaimed and new materials in every product. While our goal is to work with 100% waste, reality often demands small compromises. Instead of hiding this, we want to talk about it, learn from it, and improve.
We’ll also be sharing how we collaborate with local companies to create closed-loop systems, where waste from an industry becomes their new raw material. This way of thinking not only minimizes waste but also strengthens local production networks.
About Material District Matters
Material District is a space where designers, architects, and material innovators come together to explore the future of sustainable design. Being part of this conversation is important to us. It’s an opportunity to share what we’ve learned, but also to connect with others who are pushing material innovation forward. Because if there’s one thing we know for sure, it’s that circular design isn’t something you do alone.
We’re looking forward to diving into these conversations, sharing our journey, and hopefully inspiring others to see waste not as an end but as a beginning. Let us know if we will see you there!
